WorkCover is a Queensland government-owned
statutory authority, which means that while we are part of
the Queensland Government, WorkCover operates as an independent,
commercial enterprise focused on delivering workers’ compensation
insurance to Queensland employers and injured workers. As
a customer-focused insurer, we manage compensation claims
and rehabilitation and provide in-house insurance underwriting
services.
Our customers
WorkCover provides workers’ compensation insurance
for approximately 140 000 Queensland employers. We manage
compensation, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs
for approximately 74 000 injured workers each year. Our customers
also include medical and allied health professionals, legal
professionals and government departments. We have a strong
regional presence in Queensland with approximately 1000 people
in our offices throughout the state.

Our finances
Our income is derived from premiums paid by employers and
investment returns on our funds. We return excess funds
(after expenses, claims costs, provisioning, and required
surplus) back to employers and injured workers through
premium rate reductions, improved benefits and better services.
Our financial goals are to manage our funds and investments,
to maintain full funding, and to ensure WorkCover is able
to provide the best benefits for workers at the lowest
premium cost to employers.
